Green Pike's Director is Dr Phil Brooke. Phil is an expert computer scientist and software engineer specialising in information security. Phil holds degrees from the University of Cambridge and the University of York. He is a Chartered Engineer (CEng); a Fellow of the British Computer Society and Chartered IT Professional (CITP FBCS); and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Information Security (FCIIS). He is also a Chartered Mathematician and Member of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (CMath MIMA).
Phil has three decades of experience in computing. Much time has been spent in university posts, with a range of publications. In recent years, his main focus has been in practical information security. He has also worked in the Civil Service and been involved in law enforcement. He holds Lead Implementer and Lead Auditor qualifications for ISO 27001.
As well as information security, Phil has experience of formal methods, distributed and concurrent computing, software engineering, cybercrime, embedded systems and software development in general. He has substantial experience in relation to ethics and the management of research students.
Phil has been an academic accreditor for the BCS for around a decade. He is a member of the Academic Accreditation Committee. He was a member of the QAA's 2015 review group for the computing subject benchmark statement. As of 2019, Phil was appointed a Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor in Practical Cybersecurity Insights at Northumbria University; this project ended in 2022.
